Measurement Uncertainty Considerations According to GUM versus MSA

Measurement uncertainties, measurement errors or measurement accuracy are important in GMP-regulated industries. They must be estimated, evaluated and documented.

Two different approaches can be considered here. One is MSA, the Measurement System Analysis, and the other is GUM, the international metrology guide, via the measurement uncertainty budget. Both approaches have their specific advantages, depending on the task to be fulfilled.

In his presentation at Lounges 2025, Manuel Goldstein, Senior Consultant at gempex GmbH, will shed light on both methods and provide guidance on when to choose which approach. Thursday, 27. March 2025, 11 to 11:30 a.m., Room 3

The lecture covers the following key points:

  • Background and terms on measurement uncertainties
  • General introduction to MSA
  • GUM and the measurement uncertainty budget in detail
  • Comparison of the approaches
  • Areas of application and conclusions

Anyone wishing to attend the lecture can use the code "Lounges-KA-2025-gempex" for registering with free access to the Lounges.

On this topic, an extended specialist information “MSA versus GUM” (German language) is available on the gempex website under GMP-Knowledge  in the "InfoSheets" section.
