Industry 4.0 meets Inspection Readiness

-    Opportunities, trends and technologies of Industry 4.0 for inspections
-    Video clip from gempex
-    PharmaTechnica 2023 Online-Forum

PharmaTechnica & PharmaCongress is considered one of the most important platforms for the European Pharmaceutical Industry. In 2023, it will once again offer its visitors an online forum with video contributions to presentations given either on the occasion of the 25th PharmaCongress on March 28 and 29, 2023, or on topics that are of high interest from the industry's point of view.

In a video lecture, Frank Studt, Managing Director of gempex GmbH, presents approaches to Industry 4.0 and makes the connection to a typical inspection situation, which must thus increasingly master IT-driven processes. The lecture clearly conveys the possibilities, provides explanations of terms and ventures a look into the not-too-distant future.

Keywords such as augmented reality, a technology that is certain to replace paper in the foreseeable future and which will provide users with assistance in the process via virtual avatars, will be explained. RFID, Radio Frequent Identification Technology, which has been used for a long time and enables energy- and contactless identification of devices and objects, will be supplemented in the future by electronic, self-driving recording systems that capture changes in e.g. newly built plants without human intervention. There are already "watchdog" applications, for example, which are used in construction progress control.

In his presentation, Frank Studt will also talk about topics such as blockchain technology. It has its origins in cryptocurrencies. Its charm of unforgeable data chains should also be of great interest to the highly regulated process industry. Being able to trace process-, transport- and cold-chains seamlessly and tamper-proof from contract service providers from all over the world to Europe all the way to the patient seems possible in the near future. The lecture also presents the implementation challenges for all parties involved.

The second part of the video presentation offers a practical view. It deals with a typical inspection situation at pharmaceutical or active ingredient manufacturers. Common pitfalls are presented, and tips are given as to which boundary conditions, among others, must be created for a safe inspection readiness.

At the end, it is shown how Industry 4.0 approaches can increase patient safety. It becomes apparent that cloud-based applications, data integrity and computer system validation will continue to play an increasingly important role in the future. Thus, as Industry 4.0 applications are progressing, inspectors will inevitably (have to) become more and more IT specialists.
