Esslingen University: lecture course on quality management and GMP in biotechnology

The Faculty of Applied Natural Sciences at Esslingen University is also known for its biotechnology course of studies. Following their bachelor course of studies, students can earn their master’s degree and cover the full breadth of biotechnology – from bioprocess technology to molecular biotechnology. The lecture course “Quality Management and GMP” as a compulsory subject in the biotechnology bachelor course is being held under the leadership of Ms. Prof. Dr. rer. Nat. Bettina Weiß, head of the cell culture technology laboratory.

The GMP service provider gempex based in Mannheim was engaged to cover the GMP aspects of qualification and validation in this lecture course. From participation in booster clubs and support groups to taking part in guest lectures as a broadcaster of knowledge, gempex has been increasingly involved with universities in recent years. For Esslingen University, Dr. rer. nat. Severino Urban as a qualified biotechnologist will be imparting the key facts related to qualification and validation in biotechnology and pharmaceutical practice in addition to presenting concrete examples as a GMP expert to the students on several lecture days in November of 2019. Dr. Urban earned his doctorate in cell biology and neurosciences at Heidelberg University and has been working at gempex as a consultant since April of 2016.

Aside from a general introduction to quality management, topics such as QM systems in the pharmaceuticals sector or GMP in pharmaceutical quality management and in biotechnology are being illuminated in the lecture course.
